More Scottish Historicals? Why yes!

I guess I kind of just assumed that readers would know that I would continue to write Scottish Historicals. No idea why, mind you, it just wasn’t something I ever gave thought to explaining. But I’ve received many emails and questions asking if I’ll be writing MORE Scottish Historicals beyond the trilogy releasing this fall and ending with Never Love A Highlander next month.

The answer is absolutely! I love, love, love historicals. I began my writing career aspiring to be a historical romance author. And there is nothing I love more than Scottish Historicals.

Many of the questions have been whether I’ll continue writing about the McCabes or about secondary characters in the McCabe clan. While I won’t be writing about the McCabes, I will be beginning a new series and I can’t wait to dive into the first story. I’m SO excited about it. I adore the hero and heroine.

I don’t have an exact release date yet for the next historical after Never Love a Highlander but I believe it’ll be in the fall of 2012. Of course as SOON as I know, I’ll let you guys know. But you’ll have plenty of books to keep you busy in 2012, including two KGI books, two Harlequin Desires, Sweet Addiction, the Colter novella in June and of course a historical in the fall :)

Sound fair?

It is my sincerest hope that in 2012 I’ll finally get my schedule just as I want it and then you can look forward to a KGI book every six months. A historical every six months. And one book in the Sweet series spinoff every year in the spring.

In the meantime, know that I’ll absolutely be writing more historicals and will be publishing them on a six month schedule after the next one is released sometimes next fall :)

This is great! I loved your two historicals released so far! Can’t wait for Never Love a Highlander. I’m so excited.

  2. Sharon Mitchell says:

I am delighted that you will continue with Scottish historicals. I just read the first in one sitting (Dinner was late!). The second is on the way and the third is ordered. I hope you write many, many more.

  3. jodie says:

Just read Soul Possesion. It was great but when can I expect Kristan’s story?

  4. Zeneida says:

Great news Maya!! I love the two historical that I read and I am new to this kind of reading, so thank you for showing me new books to read. Can’t wait for the third book in the series and of course for the others to come.

    Hugs.

  5. Kaye Walker says:

I have to say that I love your books. You are great. I love especially the Scottish ones. I have the first book of the McCabe series, I have been looking for the second one since it came out on September 27th, but have not been able to find it. Please help me know where to go buy this book. I want all of them. After I have these, I am going to buy the rest of your series.

Keep up the good work lady. You are truly good at what you do.

    Thank you,

    Kaye

I just finished the first two books in the highlander series and I love these books. I am looking forward to the third book in the series.

  7. Carol L says:

I love Scottish historical Maya. The trilogy out now are some of my favorite reads. I look forward to the last in the series and definitely look forward to your new Scottish Historicals. Thanks for writing such entertaining books.

  8. Beth Pearce says:

Come on Maya! Gannon still needs someone to love! Just one more Highlander book.

  9. Shaz says:

Never Love a Highlander was excellent……
am sad to say the McCabe guy farewell……
And please keep Gannon in mind….

    1. Crys says:

I agree! He’s just like Caelen… Inside is someone wanting to feel the love his Laird and brothers have found! Gannon and Owain need a woman definately.

  10. Minuet says:

I understand you’ve closed the McCabe thread with the last book in this trilogy, BUT….

Would you PLEASE consider writing a short novella for Gannon? Maybe as part of an anthology of short stories, like FOURPLAY, or MEN OUT OF UNIFORM? Gannon may not be as young as the McCabes he’s served but he’s put up with all their wives and surely deserves a bonny lass to warm his heart and bed! Plus, I can’t see him settling for a meek-mannered maid after watching 3 bold, fiery women steal their husbands’ hearts.

Pretty, pretty please, with Gannon (or his Lass of choice) on top?

    1. Crys says:

Exactly! He has put up with Mairin when she was with Isabel, Keeley dealing with the Alaric arranged marriage and then Rionna fighting for Caelen’s life. He deserves a mini-book.

  11. Lena says:

PLEASE DO A SPIN OFF NOVELLA WITH GANNON! I adored him so much throughout the books. He needs his own story with a beautiful lass…

  12. Julie says:

I’m with everyone else – Gannon should at least have a novella with his HEA. Poor guy had to guard everyone else’s true love, he deserves his own! Besides, the McCabe brothers will love to give him grief!!!

  13. Kathy says:

    null

  14. Kathy says:

I also agree with everyone Gannon needs a lass to watch over him and give him worries. I love scottish romanance novels and came across your highlanders trilogy. They are excellent and so well done. Please, please do write more. Have to admit scottish romances are all I read.

  15. Abby says:

I am so happy to hear you plan on writing more scottish historical romances, they are my favorite type of romances and you did a fantastic job on these, I have to say that they are probably my favorite books you have written so far, so I can’t wait for more! ~ Abby, WI USA

  16. Esther says:

Definitely, a novella about Gannon would be great. He deserves it. And about the next Scottish historical series, are you really gonna keep us waiting for so long?
    Esther, PR USA

  17. Denise says:

I’m usually not a fan of the medieval historicals but these were the absolute best! Each book got better than the first which was hard to do in my opinion and the last one had the best ending I’ve read for a book AND a series in FOREVER. I really, really hated to part with these characters. BRAVA. Looking forward to more.

  18. Patti P says:

    Hi,
I just wanted to say that even though my book budget was busted I had to had to had to but the highlander books I’ve already read them all and thank you for saying that there will be more. I will be gathering my pennies until the next one comes out! I do believe you are on the top of my auto buy list.

  19. Lucy says:

I finished the third book in your trilogy about two minutes ago and I immediately rushed to your website to make sure you’ll write more historicals! I have read many of your books over the years but I think your talent truly shines brightest in your historicals. Seduction of a Highland Lass, in particular, had me on the edge of my seat and brought tears to my eyes! I’m so glad you’ll be writing more historicals and I can’t wait to read them.

  20. Bridgett says:

Just finished reading the trilogy, what a ride. I would love a book that followed up on the three brothers lives. Thanks for all your hard work.

  21. Kay says:

Loved this trilogy, you got me from the beginning with Mairin, I was angry and wanted revenge, with Keeley the tears literally flowed, and then there was Rionna, I had empathy and cheered. Thanks for the emotional ride. I’m happy to know you will continue writing Scottish Historicals. Keep them coming.

  22. Suzy R. says:

Loved the highland trilogy, glad that you intend to continue writing Scottish historicals…Have a great turkey day…

  23. Megan says:

I love your Scottish Highlander series! And I think it would be really fun to read a novel with Crispen and possibly with Gretchen…can’t wait to read more!

  24. Syd says:

OMG, I can’t wait. I loved this series and I am currently enjoying Whispers.

  25. Sherry says:

I am so excited to hear more Scottish historicals coming. I read In Bed with Highlander last weekend and had to run get the other two.

I had not read your other books but purchased these based on Scottish historicals. New readers will not be disappointed. Can not wait to read more.

  26. Vina says:

I love all three books of the McCabe Serie. I’m a big fan of highlander romance novels and I’ve read plenty of them. They’re all good but yours are the best! I so love the hero and heroine of the books! Especially Caelen and Rionna! I want to know where I can find my own Caelen.

My only question and concern is this: Will there be any audio cd for them? I listen to the audio versions because it’s easier for me at work. And if there will be audio, I was wondering if you know who would be narrating it? I do hope it’s not the same girl who read The McCabe serie. Though the books was great, the narrator killed it a bit. I read book 2 and 3, though. I do hope you choose someone like Rosalyn Landor. I love how she read, “The Bride” by Julie Garwood. Rosalyn can make the perfect male voice and the perfect female voice.

Either way, I look forward to reading more of your scottish romance novels when they come out. I am forever a fan now. Keep up the great work!

  27. Amber says:

I just finished the third book…. I fell in love with the McCabes and am going to go along time before someone new grabs my heart. BUT Gannon…. I came to the computer especially for him. Does he not get his own Lass? Perhaps something will bring him into a future book as a side story? He has history that I can just TASTE and a future yet to be written!!!!

  28. Soleah says:

I discovered the McCabe trilogy only last December and I am absolutely hooked. I read it 3 times already! I’ve been on the prowl for other Scottish historicals. Enjoyed them but nothing compares to this series.
I am so glad to learn that you will still continue to write in this genre.
    I’ve already pre-ordered “Never seduce a Scot”

  29. Maria says:

    Dear Ms. Banks,

The McCabe Trilogy deserves more sequels especially one starring Isabel McCabe when she grows up. I also wish to read more about Crispen McCabe – what happens to him now that Mairin and Ewan moved him to Neamh Alainn which is Isabel’s inheritance (which means her future husband becomes the laird after Ewan?!) Since Alaric is now laird of McCabe land, doesn’t Crispen inherit anything as Ewan’s son? I think we all deserve at least another story here to tie up the loose ends… Please! Thank you for your attention!

  30. Valeria says:

I can’t wait until your next Scottish historical! I loved the McCabe trilogy! please don’t add any love triangles into these Scottish books :)

  31. sal says:

So fantastic indeed! It seemed exceptionally distinct from blogs I’ve witnessed in advance of. Great operate for

  32. Along with everything that seems to be developing within this subject material, many of your viewpoints are actually fairly radical. Having said that, I am sorry, but I do not subscribe to your whole idea, all be it stimulating none the less. It seems to us that your opinions are actually not totally rationalized and in actuality you are generally yourself not even wholly confident of your point. In any event I did appreciate reading through it.

  33. Howdy! This post couldn’t be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my good old room mate! He always kept chatting about this. I will forward this write-up to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Thank you for sharing!

  34. Today, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a twenty five foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

  35. Myra Mason says:

I love the Sweet series and all of the scottish series…however, please consider a man narrating some of these books, especially the highlander books. Phil Gigante is about the best I have heard at doing the different male and female voices. I just can’t believe the voice if it sounds like an 80 year old english butler…or a woman that sounds like she has to clear her throat. Please consider this and I look forward to any audiobooks in the future!! Please have more audiobooks available if possible. Thank you and keep them coming!!

  36. Highlander most wanted!
Just finished reading ,I won it from goodreads, I loved it this sieres gets better and better ,I love all maya’s book haven’t read one I don’t like but this one was great!!

  37. Stacie says:

I’m finishing the McCabe trilogy now. My first book of yours I read was the new historical romance Never Seduce a Scot. I LOVED the hero and heroine! I’m so glad I found your historical romances. I love how they lead into each other. It will be hard to leave the McCabes but the Montgomery boys are delicious!

  38. Carol says:

Love all of Maya’s Scottish historicals…just finished the McCabe Trilogy and I just loved them…I am such a Julie Garwood fan and Maya’ s book are like Julie’s I cannot put them down when I get started reading them…

I have a suggestion for a future book a sequel to McCabe trilogy with Crispin and Gretchen…that would be fun.

  39. Faithful fan says:

I just finished reading Highlander Most Wanted, and want you to know I was already hooked on the story line after reading the Never Seduce a Scot, and I cried half way thru the book. I can’t wait till your next story with the Montgomery and the Armstrong clans. I also loved the McCabe men in their
trilogy, but these other men-they can rescue me any time!

  40. Janice Tomlinson says:

Will there be another book on the Montgomery and Armstrongs?

  41. Rachel says:

I’ll step in and beg for Gannon to have his own story too! Just blazed through the McCabe trilogy and loved it!

  42. Julianne says:

Ant word on the next Armstrong and Montgomery Series?

  43. Aspa says:

pls let me know if any new Armostrong and Mondgomery series are about to be published! Greetings from Greece!!!!

  44. Nette says:

PLEASE release more Highland series novels. A girl can only re-read a series so many times. I am begging you Maya. I agree with Rachel, Gannon needs to have an amazing woman of his own. Anxiously awaiting…

  45. Kaye says:

Please don’t make us wait any longer for another Montgomery and Armstrong book, I read somewhere the next one will not be out until 2016!!!1 I just don’t think I can wait that long!!!!

  46. beth says:

YES, please please please release the Armstrong book. Even if it’s an e-book.

  47. Fay says:

I Love the Highland series of McCabe and the Montgomery Armstrong series When is the next Montgomery Armstrong book going to be published

  48. Sherry Smith says:

Please release the next Montgomery Armstrong book sooner then Feb 2016. Wondering why such a large span of time between them.

    1. Kim says:

I’ve been thinking the same thing.

  49. Kim says:

I love your KGI series & have re-read the first three many times and cannot read, re-read, and listen to the Highlander/historicals enough! Well, I was so excited to see that after reading Highlander Most Wanted in March 2013 that Highlander Ever After was going to be released after The Surrender series. I figured it wouldn’t be six months, which was sooo hard to wait anyway, but February March of 2015. Ugh! I didn’t think I could wait a YEAR! But I made it. I would hope, dare I type pray, and check Amazon hoping for better news. Then I noticed that A Slow Burn series would be released before it and now The Enforcer series. I can only guess this is due to the popularity of 50 Shades of Gray and the movie, neither of which is a genre that appeals to me, since I hadn’t even read about this series on your website when checking back on the release date. Now I see that Highland Ever After MAY be released on February 2016. I type “may” since it seems to never happen. It went from 6 months, to a year, now to two. Since I haven’t had any new historicals to read from you I’ve had to start reading other authors. I mean I can almost recite your others verbatim I’ve re-read/heard them so often. I understand that if a series is popular authors might want to appeal to those readers and write a book or series in the same style. I just am so disappointed that my once “like Christmas two times a year” Maya Banks historical release (usually around my birthday; can you say buy your own favorite gift?) may be years from now. Thanks for reading this and writing two of my all time favorite series. It makes me even sadder after reading your response at the top of this post over 3 years ago.

    1. Rachel says:

I find mysef quite disapointed as it seems less and less likely that Highland Ever After will ever be published. The last time I checked your released soon page, it had at least rated a small mention at the bottom of the page saying it would be coming in Spring 2015. Now Amazon says 2016, and it is not even mentioned in the Coming soon page.

      1. chris says:

Now B&N says you can pre order highland ever after for jan, 2035……no kidding. Just in december it was listed 2015. Why would a book need to be listed for pre order 2 yrs in advance, let alone 20 yrs.
So can amyone tell me if the book will even be released in 2015. I have to say i’ve been looking forward to its final release, but now that it keeps being pushed out, especially when pushed out 2-20 years, i’ve seriously lost interest. It is quite diappointing.

  50. Jacquie Emerson says:

I have read all 5 of your Scottish historicals and LOVED them. I have been waiting several years for Highland Ever After, I even pre-ordered it 2 years ago. I just received a notice from Amazon it is not being released until 2035! Really? I am nearly 70 years old, I don’t know if I will be around at the age of 90 when it is finally released. Please update us faithful readers.

  51. Leigha says:

I have been waiting through the last 2 years along with all the other fans for highland ever after. I loved all your historical novels, but I have 0 interest in reading erotic novels or contemporary romance. I am so sad that you do not find highland ever after worthy enough to publish for your faithful historical readers. I thought ‘Finally we have a real release date!’ That was last year when I thought I would see it in 2015 at some point. How can you expect us to wait another 1-20 years to read this book?! It makes me never want to reread the books I own already because I cannot actually read to the end with the final chapter missing! Can you please for the love of God either give us a real release date to look forward to that won’t be changed (hopefully within this year— please!!) Or refund the preorders and tell us its never going to happen. I’m just so sad and frustrated. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for something I’ll never get to read.

    1. Gwendolyn Williams says:

I’m in agreement with the other readers . I p reordered the third book in the highlander series . It had since been taken off my nook. I’m reluctant to p reorder another book written by maya banks.

    2. tanya says:

Would really like a true release date for highland ever after with the Armstrong’s because truthfully your KIG novels are getting worse with every new one published. Skipped the last one all together the reviews were so bad.

  52. B.Thompson says:

I waited years for Quenton and Page’s story but you’ve never written it. Instead you are writing the M/A series. Thank you for many years of reading pleasure, but it’s time for me to find another author to enjoy.

  53. Rachel says:

I was so shocked and upset to hear about the cancellation of “highland ever after”. With that series focusing on women with physical flaws who feel that no man would want them, it made the Montgomery/Armstrong series that much more special. Please reconsider….

  54. mavis phinney says:

I really want “highlsnf ever after”how can I get a copy

  55. mavis phinney says:

highland ever after how to a get a copy

  56. Lynn Gentile says:

Please tell me the email from Amazon stating a twenty year wait for the next Montgomery and Armstrong book is wrong. Your loyal readers of scottish historicals have been waiting to long already and that is just ridiculous. Please tell us it’s an error.

  57. Lynn Wright says:

It is unfair to your readers to start a series and not finish it. I too pre-ordered Ever After and have patiently awaited it’s release. Why is it cancelled? Your other books should be on hold to get this one published. If your not going to release it then I too want my refund. I have never posted negative comments before, but I will.

  58. Sara says:

I’m sorry to write this but I am extremely disappointed to hear that Highland Ever After has been cancelled. I have waited patiently along with others for this book to be released but it is not so. Why start a series when there is going to be no end? I think I will now go to other authors who actually commit to the books that they say they will write, not authors who stop a series midway.

  59. Shawn says:

I never buy “pre-orders”, however, I loved the Armstrong and Montgomery series so ordered the third one. Two years ago. The expected date keeps changing and now Barnes and Nobel has it available in 2035. Really!

  60. Rachel says:

Like everyone’s comments above, I have been disappointed that the last book in your sequel seems to be put on the permit back burner. I have look for a long time for a Author that can rival Julie Garwood in historical romance and believe I had finally found one. BUT I am disappointed in the seeming lack of follow through….and no response from you that has not been posted to everyone’s comments above.

    A disappointed fan.

  61. Kelly says:

I am also upset, she comes out with new series and can’t finish the ones we have invested in. And yet she won’t reply to any of the comments. Seems to me like she doesn’t care about her fans!

  62. Lori says:

I agree. Why can’t Maya acknowledge her fans about Highlander series? Finish what you start.

  63. Charlie says:

Can you give an update on what happened to Highland Ever After and when/if there are any plans to publish it?

  64. Joya says:

Seriously? Finish what you start? Have you ever written a book? Ever dealt with a publisher who’s priorities are different from yours? I am sure Maya wants to get the book out, but whether they publish it and when is not under her control. We don’t know what was written when. Again, publishers have their own priorities. I am sure Maya cares, but as much as I want to read that book, I will wait until it arrives and not judge her and say she doesn’t care.

  65. Ally says:

I’m in withdrawal for this series to continue. To help out fellow fans Maya has posted about it on her facebook which is a updated regularly. I found one post https://www.facebook.com/AuthorMayaBanks/posts/10152761730583302

There are more–she definitely wants the book out there. Just not up to her when. AHHH! Frustrating.

    Hope this helps.

  66. Tina says:

I have pre-ordered Highland Ever After. Loved the series. I CANNOT BELIEVE that I have waited over 3 years for this last book. Then Barnes & Nobel tells me that it will be released in 2035 WTH….now it’s been taken off their list. Maya Banks was new me and her first books I purchased was the Armstrong/Montgomery Series…Fell in love with the first 2 books and was so excited for the last book. This series portrayed woman who endure a great deal of pain yet survived but not without a price. In the end they found men who loved them deeply despite their scars emotional and physically. This is one of the reasons why I fell in love with the series. I JUST CANT BELIEVE that an author would start a series in such HIGH DEMAND AND NOT FINISH THE LAST INSTALLMENT that everyone has been faithfully waiting on. She should loyal to her fans that buy her books that keeps her income flowing. So a HUGH DISSAPOINTMENT!!!!

    1. Amy says:

      I could not agree more!

  67. Amy says:

I also pre-ordered Happily Ever After only to see it never came out. More then a little annoyed, I doubt I will ever read another of her books, nothing like leaving the fans hanging in favor of the sadly in thing now…..bdsm books….puke!

  68. Camille says:

I loved the Montgomery and Armstrong series i have physical difficulties so i was pleased with these books just knowing love like that exists, but honestly i don’t think i’ll be here when the last book comes out tomorrow is not promised.

  69. Darlene says:

Glad I discovered this blog. Thought I was one of the only ones so very disappointed to never see the third book in this trilogy. I could care less about contemporary romance and will not be reading any of those. Maya has great talent in writing historicals. What a shame.

  70. Leanne says:

So excited when I pre ordered book 3 of the Montgomery and Armstrong series. But like you guys I’m left very disappointed.

  71. Toni says:

So disappointed that Highland Ever After may never happen. Like everyone else, can’t believe an author would abandon a series like this.

  72. Wendy says:

I’m with all the other people commenting on here. I am so disappointed to hear this series has been cancelled. It’s the same with Lisa Valdez and “Primrose” I have been waiting over two years for this book to be published. Why start writing a series if you have no intention of finishing it?

  73. Louise says:

I too am disappointed that you will not continue the Montgomery Armstrong trilogy, please, please reconsider? In reading some of these comments, I however do love love the KGI series and many other of your series but there’s just something about this Scottish historicals, please reconsider, you obviously have a talent for it. Just like TV brought us “Outlanders” you can bring us your series thru books, #hereshopingyouchangeyourmind#

  74. Mer says:

Yes, Ms. Banks. Please do reconsider. You actually write quite amazing historical romances and that I truly enjoy and love them. Please Ms. Banks, I’m begging you. Please don’t end the series.

  75. DLKreads says:

I’m wondering after reading all these posts if the Montgomery & Armstrong series is cancelled, because according to the FB page you are trying to get a scheduled for release. So I’m wondering is it Cancelled or delayed and if its just delayed can you give us your best guess?

  76. Ally says:

I’m not sure why everyone is blaming the author. I posted a link. She has claimed several times–IT IS IN THE PUBLISHERS HANDS. She indicated–she had (long) finished Highland Ever After. I haven’t read anything saying they will never release it. I would think it would be removed from any popular book-related sites. Contact the publishers if you want. I looked on their site and they removed the book from their upcoming releases. Makes no sense. These books are profitable. They’re basically killing this series by prolonging this. Maybe that’s their intention. Romance authors have been experiencing rather serious issues with publishers from what I read/researched.

  77. Ally says:

    https://www.facebook.com/AuthorMayaBanks/posts/10152975238663302

This is the most recent details I could easily find.

  78. Elgy says:

According to Book Depository, Highland Ever After is being released January 1, 2015. Price for pb (no cds, kindle reads, etc) is discount of $7.11. Pre-orders are being taken. If they’re wrong, they’re very fair in giving refunds back.
